a BUG's life #1

We are ant guardians of a hive. Oppressed guardians. Every day and night we must ensure the right bees enter the hive. If not the big ants will come after us small ants.

In the day, we must ensure that we look sharp and alert. Because thats when the big bees come in. If our feeler hats are worn not nicely, or our pincer-cannons are not "on guard", the big bees will come and tell us off when they come in. Or worse. Tell our drone big ant about it via intra-hive mail. Then the drone big ant will tell the not-so-big-but-still-quite-big ant, and he will come after us.

In the night there are few big bees around. But not-so-big ant will try to come up with scenarios that will "threaten" the hive. Then we small ants must "protect" the hive. We are already very tired in the day. All of us will have to participate and we have less time to rest. Then the next day we must look sharp and alert for the big bees.

The big ants are sometimes very clever. They came up with a way to punish us small ants that made us very sad. If we are not up to standard during duty, they make us do more duty after our duty cycle, while other ants can go home. When a fellow small ant get cycle extensions we usually quite sad for him. He can't go out out to see the butterflies. Pretty butterflies always raise our spirits. If he gets extensions he usually only have enough time to rush home to get a short rest before we need to report back to our hive again.

I hope i will not get extensions next cycle. In fact, i don't want to get extensions at all. But not-so-big ant is getting stricter. We just want to finish all our duty cycles and go back to our dragonfly life. If not-so-big ant is nice to us we will definitely put in more effort for duty. But not-so-big ant doesn't understand that.
